MASS TIMBER IN PRACTICE
As a compliment to his architecture and planning skills, Ted has advocated for the use of mass timber across a variety of infill housing types, including the integration of heavy timber and mass timber components in midrise construction. His mass timber concepts are strongly rooted in both design and feasibility, and function within market constraints. Notable areas of focus include:
Development of a hybrid cross-laminated timber structure used in several mixed-use projects, and presented in workshops and conferences across the US including the International Mass Timber Conferences in 2017, 2018 and 2023.
Defining suitable scopes for mass timber within the context of larger planning programs, and solidifying this scope with team stakeholders including clients, consultants and contractors. His relationships with mass timber vendors and consultants is integral to design proposals
Formation and lead for Urban Settlements and Wood Technology, a cross-disciplinary collaborative established to address global housing needs with carbon-positive resources such as mass timber.
